GitBook is built for teams whose docs are written by the people shipping the code: a product guide, an API reference generated from an OpenAPI spec, and a public help centre in one place. The problem it answers is drift.

Editing runs through a branching workflow called change requests, and Git Sync keeps a GitHub or GitLab repository in step with the web editor both ways. The bill splits in two: a published site costs $65 a month on Premium or $249 on Ultimate at the annual rate, and everyone who can log in costs $12 a month on top, guests and read-only members included. Readers are free and page views are never counted.

There is no inbox, no ticket queue and no SLA, so a support team keeps its help desk and uses GitBook for the articles. Authenticated access, site sections and the Assistant sidebar are Ultimate-only; SAML SSO and audit logs are Enterprise, quoted rather than priced. No button exports Markdown: the documented route is to sync a section to an empty repository and call that repository the export, and blocks with no Markdown equivalent arrive as HTML. Data sits in the United States with no region choice.

Document360 sells the same job to the same buyer and publishes no price at all. HelpKit runs $15 to $79 per site against hard article caps and leaves the writing in Notion. GitBook assumes its writers already live in Git. All three sit in knowledge base software.
